Quick turnaround – this week we present to you, Salah, Haaland, and our differential choice, Bruno Fernandes
M Salah (Newcastle (H))(55% ownership) / E Haaland (Nottingham Forest (H) (68% ownership)
I expect ~90%+ of captaincy armbands this week to be on one of 3 players – Salah, Haaland or Jesus, so it’s worth talking about them together. Haaland has 7 attacking returns this season and 6 bonus points, Salah has 3 attacking returns and 3 bonus points, Jesus has 5 attacking returns and 3 bonus points. With a home fixture against a promoted team, Haaland would normally be the obvious choice but Pep’s comments on rotation mean he is not certain to start. While it’s possible to analyse his comments and come to the conclusion that Haaland may miss a different game the reality is this – we don’t know.
So, if you like a high risk, high reward option, go for Haaland. If you prefer a safer option go for Salah (or Jesus).
Note – Salah’s seen a lot of transfers out this week with ownership dropping by 5%. This remains odd in my view – while it’s obviously frustrating he didn’t return in the weekend’s mauling of Bournemouth, he remains one of the most consistent FPL players of all time, and continues to return this season.
B Fernandes (Leicester (H)) (2% ownership) – this is the point where many of you may think we’ve taken total leave of our senses, but hear me out. A respectable 10 goals and 6 assists last season despite the Ronaldo shadow, and scored his first of the season at the weekend. Arguably United’s main attacking outlet when Ronaldo’s not on the pitch, certainly most likely to be on pens. Captaining United with Maguire resigned to the bench. Post dropping Ronaldo & Maguire United look back on some degree of form. Up against a Leicester side who have conceded 10 goals in 5 games (at least 2 per game) and who look short at the back. Realistically I’d go for one of the first 3 options, but if you really want a punt…
