FPL 2022/23 : Gameweek 2 – Captain Picks
Not a bad result from GW1 – our top captain pick Salah got 12 points and even our ‘punt’ pick Wilson scored. Nothing from Kane, but you can’t win them all.
Each week, we’ll provide an article looking at 3 captain choices – one recommended, one strong alternative, and one differential choice.
For GW2. we present to you Haaland, Salah and De Bruyne.
E Haaland (Bournemouth (H)) (58% ownership) – 2 goals and all 3 bonus points is not a bad result for the Norwegian’s first FPL GW! As a result is the most transferred in player by a massive margin this GW with over 1m managers transferring him in. Appears to be on pens. Ludicrous goalscoring record (115 goals in 157 league games in his career). Home fixture against a newly promoted team (albeit one who comfortably dispatched Villa last week.) Playing for the best team in the league. Our top captain choice this GW!
M Salah (Crystal Palace (H)) (63% ownership) – Think I may get bored writing about Salah each GW… 12 points, including a goal, assist and 2 bonus points in GW1. Coming up against a Palace team who conceded 2 at home to Arsenal last week. Top points scorer for the last 3 seasons, on pens and as nailed to start as any player can be. Overlook at your peril.
(Note – a few have been making a point of Salah failing to score in GW2. Complete nonsense in my opinion – there’s bound to be a random GW where even the best FPL players haven’t returned for a few seasons in a row, some have even run the maths demonstrating this).

K De Bruyne (Bournemouth (H)) (16% ownership) – Seems odd to be talking about the second most expensive player in the game as a differential, but at 16% ownership (around the same ballpark as Cash, Coutinho and Ødegaard) he qualifies. 6th top FPL points scorer last season (with 15 goals) despite only starting 24 games. Linchpin of the most attacking team in the league for a number of years now. As nailed on a starter for City as you can get. Seems to be linking up well with Haaland, but not ludicrous to suggest he may outscore the latter in FPL (particularly given the extra point he gets for goals and clean sheets)
Our top pick for this week is Erling Haaland!
