🚨 ⏰ KANE VERSUS HAALAND – EXPECTED MINUTES ANALYSIS GW1 – GW6 ⏰🚨
🧠 It makes sense to run 🏃♂️ some projections in your own mind 🤯 as to how the minutes will likely pan out for both Erling Haaland 🇳🇴 and Harry Kane 🏴.
🧠 Tbf, it’s a good idea to do this exercise with all of your players and particularly if you’re deciding between 2️⃣ key 🔑 assets
💡Lighbulb moment – your FPL players CANNOT score FPL points if they’re not on the pitch‼️ Sounds bloody obvious yeah but so many FPL managers don’t pay it enough attention.
🎲 If, like me, you place a lot of importance on playing the percentages % in FPL, it’s a good exercise to note 📝 down how many minutes you expect certain players to play in each GW.
🧠 You can then factor that in to your overall calculations which should also be including stuff like: pre-season form, fixture ease, tactics of their team, price point, historical FPL returns etc etc
🧠 Factored into the calculations is an appreciation of all Pep’s pre-season comments (Haaland’s too) about protecting his body and integrating him into the squad etc (see my separate article if you missed those press conference 🎙 quotes).
Also factored in is Richarlison’s 🐀 arrival at Spurs and the likelihood of Kane getting occasional (very) late substitutions as a result. Historically that has hardly ever happened at all and I expect Kulu 🇸🇪, Son 🇰🇷 and Richarlison 🇧🇷 to impact on each other’s minutes more than any of them do on Kane’s.
🧮 Here are my educated guesses as to how many minutes Kane 🏴 and Haaland 🇳🇴 will get in the first 6GWs of the season.
⏰ GW1
🏴 Kane v Southampton (H) = 90 mins
🇳🇴 Haaland v West Ham (a) = 30 mins
⏰ GW2
🏴 Kane v Chelsea (a) = 90 mins
🇳🇴 Haaland v Bournemouth (H) = 70 mins
⏰ GW3
🏴 Kane v Wolves (H) = 85 mins
🇳🇴 Haaland v Newcastle (a) = 75 mins
⏰ GW4
🏴 Kane v Forest (a) = 90 mins
🇳🇴 Haaland v Palace (H) = 30
mins
⏰ GW5
🏴 Kane v West Ham (a) = 90 mins
🇳🇴 Haaland v Forest (H) = 75 mins
⏰ GW6
🏴 Kane v Fulham (H) = 80 mins
🇳🇴 Haaland v Villa (a) = 75 mins
🏴 Kane total = 525 mins
🇳🇴Haaland total = 355 mins
🧠 To eliminate any chance of confirmation bias (i.e. low-balling the stats to justify a pre-conceived conclusion) and / or to factor in that these are just guestinates (albeit based on sound research and analysis) let’s then assume I’ve overstated Kane’s minutes by 10% and underplayed Haaland’s by 10%. Once you’ve run that sensitivity test it comes out that:
🏴 Kane’s total mins = 473 mins
🇳🇴Haaland total = 391 mins
🧠 Therefore I’ve concluded that in all likelihood Kane will play 82 more minutes than Haaland in the period GW1-GW6. That’s almost an entire extra game‼️
👊🏽 It goes without saying that you can of course disagree with analysis on the player minutes ⏰. If you do intuitively disagree I’d definitely recommend that you go through the same kind of ‘bottom up’ calculation and see what numbers you come out with yourself 🤷♂️. Maybe even put those calculations in the comments below. If you’re being honest with yourself Haaland’s minutes will be well down on Kane’s 😉…you may of course still think he’s the better pick with fixtures, team quality, ownership %, number of goals their teams will score, finishing ability etc in mind. Assists also need considering. If after all of that you’re happy with the Haaland XM (expected minutes trade off) then fair enough and you’ve made an educated choice as clearly he’s a good FPL option too 👍
🙏 I hope this is useful and interesting 👊🏽
